Message Notes:

Title: Your Name Matters

Speaker: Pastor John Gibson

Passage : Romans 16: 1-16

Proverbs 22:1

” A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold”

Points:

  1. We are not just a building, we are a people worth remembering
    1. Paul the apostle made connections with people during his ministry, His name mattered among the people even though many hated and disagreed with him.
    2. We need to make sure we are getting to know and caring for others
    3. if we only care about the church building then we are not ding what we should. we need to keeping making connections outside the building and developing those relationships by caring and loving others regardless on if they like us or not.
  2. The people in the passages were workers and helpers in the ministry
    1. Feve – She was the one who carried Pauls’ instructions to the people, she was a servant who stood up for people
      1. how we treat each other is important to God
      2. we shouldn’t let hateful people define our name. we are defined by God.
      3. Paul told the people to treat feve just as well as those who were royalty
        1. everyone deserves to be treated with love and respect.
        2. How we treat others reflects how they can view God.
    2. Pricilla and equilla  – they were sacrificial servants. Paul said they would stick their necks out for Him and that all the churches should be thankful because they stood up for the church.
    3. It is really important for new believers to be invested in the ministry in order to be mentored and taught in the ways of Christ.
    4. ministry is about serving the people not about the pastor or leaders
  3. they all had different stories but they loved the Same Lord
    1. everyone comes from a different background but we all have a common focus which is God
    2. be willing to service God by serving other people, helping them, and loving them.
  4. What does your name mean? what does your name say about Christ?
